The shadows flicker in the light of the sun
Winter’s sleepily hibernating and the summer’s just begun
There isn’t a cloud to be seen in the sky
And as I’m wondering I take a sigh
And everything around stays quiet just to hear
The shining rays of the sun blazing through the atmosphere
All is still, not even a breeze
And the chimes are singing with a contented ease
The occasional birdsong interrupts the silence of the air
Summer is about the only thing everyone can share
Aeroplanes overhead but still so far away
Dancing in the warmth of a beautiful summer’s day
Children shouting in the gardens, laying on the grass
Too sticky to play, too sticky for the mass
Of sticky people in the full glare of the sun
Because winter is hibernating and the summer’s just begun
Smack! Bluebottles hit the window. They really do want suicide
Getting lost in a room. There’s no way out but to die.
